Required Ingredients

  • A glass of hot water
  • A glass of cold water
  • Two sachets of herbal tea
  • Two teaspoons
  • Sugar

Do teas taste different?
If we put the same amount of sugar in two cups of tea, one hot and one cold, which one tastes different?
sweeter? Let’s conduct an experiment to find out!

First things first:

Put tea bags in cups of hot water and cups of cold water

Step Two:
Wait a minute or two. Then stir the teas and remove the bags.

Step Three:
Add a teaspoon of sugar to the tea, but do not stir. Let the hot tea cool down a little.

Step Four:

Taste the teas in turn. What did you observe?

What is happening?
Sugar is a water-soluble solid, meaning that it mixes homogeneously with water. The solubility of solids dissolved in water generally increases as the temperature of the water increases. This means that the same amount of sugar dissolves more quickly in the same amount of hot water than in cold water. Therefore, when we add sugar, we find that the hot tea is sweeter than the cold tea.
