Non standard units worksheet activities are most effective when they relate to the child’s own world. What is more relatable than their own shoes?
From Objects to Body Math So far, we have measured with clips and pencils. Now, we introduce “Shoes” as a unit.
- The Connection: This activity is the direct precursor to learning standard measurements like “Feet.”
- The Task: We are measuring things found on the floor (A Welcome Mat, A Yoga Mat, A Hopscotch Path).
- The Rule: Just like with erasers, the shoes must be placed heel-to-toe with no gaps!
This PDF helps children visualize longer distances and understand why a “giant step” might give a different measurement than a “baby step.
