This free Halloween reading comprehension worksheet features a short story about Ollie the owl and his evening flight. With simple sentences and four easy questions, the printable is designed for kindergarten and early first-grade students who are beginning to read short passages independently.
Owl’s Evening Flight Reading Story
The worksheet includes a short five-sentence story titled “Owl’s Evening Flight.” Ollie flies beneath the moon on a quiet Halloween night, watches glowing fireflies and then returns to his nest in a tall tree. Autumn leaves and a jack-o’-lantern add a friendly seasonal theme without making the activity too scary for young readers.
Halloween Reading Comprehension Questions
After reading the passage, children answer four simple questions about key details in the story. Students identify the owl’s name, what Ollie loves, what he watches during his flight and where his nest is located.
These questions encourage children to return to the text, find information and practice recalling important details. The short format makes the worksheet useful for beginning readers who may find longer passages overwhelming.
